The Park School is a Pre-K to Grade 8 independent school in Brookline, MA dedicated to excellence in education. Park's faculty encourages each student to strive for intellectual, physical and moral growth and to become contributing members of the community.Park's Academic Support Department provides support to students with academic, organizational, and attentional challenges. These services are meant to address students' specific learning needs and help them meet classroom goals. We are seeking a committed, enthusiastic, and experienced Learning Specialist with a focus on literacy to join our Academic Support team. This position is fee for service, benefits eligible, and requires the ability to be scheduled 4 days per week during school hours including 1-2 days with a before or after school session.Provide one to one support for students in Grades K-8, with a focus on supporting literacy and executive function skills development for students with learning challenges, including students whose learning profiles include language based learning disabilities.Caseload will include 18- 24 sessions per week and will typically include up to 12 students.Work collaboratively with classroom teachers, Academic Support Head, and other school educators to identify and address student needs.Interpret neuropsychological reports and use the results and recommendations to inform practice.Communicate effectively with parents about student needs and progress and enlist parents as partners in supporting student growth.Write student progress reports up to 3 times each academic year.Attend one Academic Support Department meeting per week, parent conferences twice a year, and team/child study meetings as appropriate for caseload.QualificationsTraining in the Orton Gillingham method including completion of Associate Level coursework plus supervised O-G practicum, or Wilson Language Systems training including supervised practicum.Minimum of three years successful experience teaching/tutoring students with language based learning difficulties, especially students in Grades 1-4.Demonstrated understanding of specific learning challenges that can impact student's acquisition of literacy skills, knowledge of how to address these challenges in order to support achievement, and ability to communicate these challenges and strategies to teachers and parents.Ability to support reading, writing, and study skills needed for students' content area learning through Grade 8.Training and experience in methods of teaching reading, writing, and organizational skills to students with attentional and executive function challenges.Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and students to support learning.Experience providing both "pull out" and "push in" support.Experience with both in person and remote literacy instruction and support.Current knowledge of technological supports for literacy learning.Demonstrated commitment to providing support to students and families from diverse cultures and backgrounds.Demonstrated interest in ongoing professional development and innovative practices that support student growth.Application InformationPlease visit Park's career page to complete an application and upload your resume, cover letter, leadership/philosophy statement, and the names of three to five references including two present or past supervisors.The Park School welcomes candidates who will add to the diversity of our community and who have demonstrated a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in their teaching and learning.The Park School is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, national or ethnic origin, ancestry, sex, disabilities, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression or family composition or any other status protected by applicable law in the administration of its employment, education, admission, financial aid, and other policies and programs.Please attach your teaching philosophy statement.*Please provide the name, email address, and phone number of three to five professional references including two present or past supervisors.*What is your highest level of completed education?*How did you hear about this opportunity?*This position is a fee-for-service, benefits-eligible position, and requires the ability to be scheduled 4 days per week during school hours including 1-2 days with a before or after school session.
