Overview GENERAL SUMMARY: The Associate Director manages the process of identifying, qualifying, assigning, and personally soliciting and cultivating a portfolio of 300-400 donors who have the capacity to give $1,000 or more to Dana-Farber through Annual Giving, and works closely with colleagues from other teams to coordinate prospect management activity. As a senior staff member of the Prospect Management team this position also participates in developing overall leadership giving and individual prospect management strategies for Dana-Farber. The person manages a team of 7 staff. Responsible for assisting the entire Division with reaching financial goals. Requirements PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Oversee Annual Giving Prospect Management

  • Work closely with the Director of Prospect Management to manage personal solicitation strategies for Annual Giving donors of $500-$100,000.
  • Implement a comprehensive prospect management plan within Annual Giving with a focus on qualifying donors and increasing giving to Dana-Farber's President's Circle ($1,500). Personal Solicitation
    • Personally solicit 6-10 prospects per month (75+ donor visits per year).
    • Identify and research prospects; solicit prospects for increased leadership level commitments ($1,500+); make leadership level asks; qualify and steward prospects toward annual leadership, principal and major gift solicitation; prepare and submit proposals; cultivate prospects; track results.
    • Utilize direct mail, phone, email, or volunteers for solicitation or cultivation of prospects as appropriate.
    • Keep current with and be able to convey information about highlights and initiatives at Dana-Farber. Manage Staff
      • Supervise, hire, train, coach, and evaluate prospect management staff - two Senior Assistant Directors, one Assistant Director, three Officers, and one Assistant. Lead staff to reach prospect management goals. Reporting
        • Report progress on goals & responsibilities to the department; produce analysis of personal solicitation effectiveness.
        • Coordinate with Associate Director for Group Strategies on development of prospect management reporting tools.
        • Assist with implementation of comprehensive prospect management plan within Annual Giving.
        • Serve as Philanthropy liaison to DFCI Network including satellites and physician practices. Coordinate with Vice President of Annual, Planned, & Institutional Giving and Clinical and Network Operations staff as appropriate to ensure engagement amongst broader DFCI community.-- Division Support
          • Participate in visits, asks, and stewardship of Annual Giving donors. Other Activities As Needed
            • Participate as needed in Division of Philanthropy team efforts including solicitation strategy teams for key prospects and internal planning efforts. Ad-hoc projects. Other responsibilities as assigned. Responsible for assisting the entire department with reaching financial goals. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Reports to the Director of Prospect Management, Annual Giving. Supervises 7 professional staff. Qualifications MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree required plus 6-8 years of experience in development, including a minimum of 2 years of personal solicitation experience. Supervisory experience. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: Strong oral and written communications skills. Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Excellent organizational skills, analytical skills, and attention to detail. A significant portion of our donor base is grateful patients and families. A high degree of empathy and sensitivity is required. Ability to work with a variety of constituencies, including donors, volunteers, and DFCI staff. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and development databases. Ability to work independently and be self-motivated. Excellent problem solving and reasoning skills. Demonstrated ability to meet fundraising goals. Ability to work in a collegial manner with the Development & Jimmy Fund team in creating and implementing solicitation strategies. Willingness to travel, primarily in MA/New England, and 1-2 times per year in other key regions. This position will evaluate current programs and create and execute approved plans to expand and diversify the donors and participants for the events assigned in order to broaden our donor base and create even more inclusive events. Experience with diverse donors is a plus. PATIENT CONTACT: No WORKING CONDITIONS: Typical office setting. Some evening and weekend work may be required. Frequent travel in the New England area. Travel in other key regions 1-2 times/year. * To protect the health and safety of our patients and staff, in person donor visits and travel are on hold and will resume in accordance with Institute guidelines.
