Job DescriptionThe Public Library of Brookline is seeking a
Library Business Manager/Accountant I to join our team. This
position assists the Library Director in all business practices
across the Department. Will direct, facilitate and prepare all
necessary administrative functions to ensure the timely and
accurate processing of business functions including, maintenance of
financial records and reports; accounts payable, budget monitoring
and preparation, updating revenues and expenses, prepare
requisitions, and issuing of purchase/service orders and
inventory.Qualifications:Associate's Degree in accounting, business
administration, finance or a related field; 2-3 years of accounting
experience; or an equivalent combination of education and
experience; municipal library experience preferred.Knowledge of
business practices and procedures; financial computer applications,
including word processing, spreadsheets and email required. Ability
to organize time, prioritize duties and to accomplish tasks with a
high level of accuracy and attention to detail. Social media
experience required.Starting salary is $28.22 hourly (Increases to

DescriptionPrimary PurposeAssists in business operations of the
department, performing a wide range of administrative and financial
duties. Performs other related duties as required. Essential Duties
and ResponsibilitiesThe essential functions or duties listed below
are illustrations of the type of work that is performed. The

from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical
assignment to the position.
- Assists the Library Director in all business practices across
the Department areas; prepares and maintains financial records and
reports; including but not limited to, accounts payable and
receivable; develops standardized internal control system for
monitoring, ordering, and distributing Department inventory, office
equipment and supplies.
- Performs daily review of bills and invoices submitted by
vendors, suppliers and contractors for completeness and accuracy;
ensures timely and accurate payment of invoices; ensures proper
back-up of payment records.
- Directs, facilitates and prepares all necessary administrative
functions to ensure the timely and accurate processing of the
Department's various business functions including, but not limited
to requisitions, receiving invoices, budget transfers, supporting
documentation, etc.
- Ensures the completeness and accuracy of the accounts payable
coding form; enters vouchers into the automated general ledger
(MUNIS). Issues automated purchase/service orders; ensures proper
back-up of purchase/service order records.
- Regularly monitors and prepares budget documents for Director's
review, reconciles monthly and quarterly accounts with the Town
Treasurer, Comptroller, bank and credit card companies; assists in
updating revenues and expenses for all department programs and
facilities through document preparation and review; performs
close-out operations at the end of the fiscal year.
- Assists in developing and executing marketing plans for
Department, including branding, advertising and department's public
visibility; may assist Librarians I and II with social media sites
as needed and directed by the Town Librarian.
- Assists staff, vendors, the public and other departments in the
furnishing of information and the resolution of problems; suggests
alternative courses of action; researches questions.
- Regularly prepares various reports for the Director. Completes
special projects and provides additional administrative assistance.
Performs similar or related work as directed, required, or as
situation dictates.SupervisionSupervision Scope: Performs varied
and responsible duties requiring knowledge of library operations;
duties require considerable attention to detail and accuracy and
the exercise of judgment and initiative to carry out operations;
and is required to be flexible in the approach to the workload.
Supervision Received: Works under direct supervision of the Library
Director, following established department policies and appropriate
professional standards; works independently to implement the
policies and directives of the Director. Supervision Given:
NoneWork EnvironmentPerforms work in office conditions; the volume
of work is relatively stable, subject to cyclic and seasonal
fluctuations. Operates standard office equipment such as a personal
computer and peripherals, including printers, copier and handheld
and mobile electronic devices. The employee has ongoing contact
with staff, senior management, other Town and School departments,
vendors and the public. Errors could result in interruption of
service, loss of department services, and financial loss to the
Town. Recommended Minimum QualificationsEducation and
ExperienceAssociate's Degree in accounting, business
administration, finance or a related field; two to three years of
accounting experience; or an equivalent combination of education
and experience; municipal library experience preferred. Knowledge,
Ability and SkillKnowledge of business practices and procedures and
library operations; knowledge of financial, billing and budgeting
procedures; knowledge of various business and financial computer
applications, including word processing and spreadsheets.
Ability to organize time, prioritize duties and to accomplish tasks
within a deadline, with accuracy and attention to detail; ability
to work independently; ability to communicate effectively verbally
and in writing, including effective communication through email and
social media.Analytical and organizational skills; strong
communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to work
independently or as a member of a team.Physical RequirementsMinimal
physical effort is required to perform duties; ability to sit,
speak and hear and operate office equipment; vision requirements
include the ability to read and analyze documents and use a
